Iran has donated $200 million to Lebanese Hezbollah to help Lebanese residents who have lost their homes or been forced to leave their homes as a result of the war with Israel. Reuters reported this on October 7, citing two sources.
According to the agency, the money was transferred in September. Hezbollah plans to pay $3,000 to each family in the first stage. Priority will be given to residents of settlements that have been destroyed or remain inaccessible due to the presence of Israeli forces.
One of the Reuters sources reported that we are talking about about 50 thousand families.
Intermediaries involved in the transfer of funds from Iran received a commission of 20% due to the high risk of the transaction. According to an agency source, this is approximately four times the usual commission for such transfers.
A Hezbollah spokesman confirmed to Reuters that it had received the funds and said a distribution plan would be announced in the coming days, but did not specify the source of the funding.
Reuters notes that the transfer was carried out despite US sanctions and other measures aimed at limiting financial flows from Iran. The authorities of Iran, Lebanon and the US Treasury Department did not provide comments at the time of publication of the message.
