Iran’s ambassador in Paris was summoned to the French Foreign Ministry to protest the Iranian regime’s disinformation campaign surrounding the demonstrations in France.
“The insinuations spread by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on social networks are absolutely unacceptable, and the call of the French Ambassador to the Foreign Ministry is unfounded. The provocations must stop,” said Pascal Confavreau, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
On October 6, the French Ambassador to Tehran, Pierre Cochard, was summoned to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was protested in connection with the violence against participants in the demonstrations that swept France. “Such harshness towards demonstrators is a blatant violation of human rights,” the note says.
The demonstrations in France began as protests against teaching conditions in schools. They quickly fell under the control of the far right and Islamists and escalated into unrest, accompanied by clashes with police and vandalism.
In Iran itself, opposition protests were suppressed with extreme cruelty in January. Dozens of people were killed. Authorities claim that the death toll was no more than 3,000, and the Ayatollah regime blamed Israel and the United States for the unrest.
