On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to impeach two of his close associates for allegedly advising the authorities in Republika Srpska in parallel. “Chris LaCivita and James Blair are my external consultants. I don’t know who their other clients are, but when I think about it, I will ask them. If there is a conflict of interest, stop working with them,” the American president wrote on Truth Social.
According to the New York Times, the two men recently traveled to Republika Srpska, and both received hundreds of thousands of dollars each to advise local authorities on election matters.
The de facto leader of the RS, the pro-Russian Milorad Dodik, announced on Sunday that his party, the Union of Independent Social Democrats (SNDS), retained power in the Republika Srpska in the general elections.
In his speech, he paid tribute to the American president. “If it wasn’t for Donald Trump’s magnificent victory and if he hadn’t removed that hated Biden structure, we would probably be politically dead today, but thanks to the new environment, we are now political winners,” said Dodik.
He also thanked his other ally, Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A court verdict banned him from holding the office of president of the RS for six years, and the 67-year-old Dodik, whom many still simply call “the president”, still has considerable influence on the entity, thanks to the strength of his party.
Chris LaCivita, a strategist very close to Donald Trump, and James Blair, a senior White House official on temporary leave, are the architects of the Republican campaign for the American mid-term elections in November.
They mainly oversee the pro-Trump campaign finance organization, Maga Inc.
Polls currently predict a clear defeat for the Republicans on November 3rd. The Democratic opposition hopes to take control of one, or even both, houses of the US Congress in these elections, which are crucial for the second half of Donald Trump’s term.
