Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries rejects “reckoning” and says they will focus on “solving problems”

The Democratic leader in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, assured this Thursday after the victory of the Democratic Party in the mid-term elections, which give him full control of the US Congress, that his party will not seek a “settling of accounts” with the president, Donald Trump, and will instead focus on “solving problems” for citizens.

“The American people don’t want us to settle scores. They want us to work to solve their problems, because life is too expensive,” Jeffries said in statements to the MS NOW television network, after the Democratic wave that has shaken the political table in the United States.

In this way he has defended that Democrats have campaigned around the “commitment to making life more affordable.” “We won with that message and now our responsibility is to govern with an affordable cost of living as a priority,” he stated.

Regarding possible investigations that the House of Representatives may open to the US Government, Jeffries has insisted that it is the responsibility of his party “to follow the facts, apply the law, be guided by the Constitution and accept the consequences, whatever they may be.”

He thus pointed out that part of the job of representatives in the US Congress is to ensure that “those who have committed irregularities are held accountable for their actions.”

Jeffries is called to be the new leader of the House of Representatives and become the first African-American to reach the position in the history of the US Congress, as pointed out by the shadow leader of the Democratic Party, Nancy Pelosi, after the clear victory achieved in the legislative elections this Tuesday in the United States.

The ‘midterms’ have been a setback for the Republican Party, after the Democrats have validated the most optimistic scenarios to gain control of both chambers of the United States Congress and achieve historic victories in the race for governors in states such as Texas, Ohio or Georgia.
