Landslide victory: Democrats take control of Congress, debacle for Trump

The ÖVP MEPs were pleased that a clear majority voted out President Donald Trump’s system Reinhold Lopatka and Luke Mandl in a broadcast. “This offers new opportunities for Europe in the extremely important transatlantic relations, which continue to be of great importance in economic and security policy terms,” said Lopatka. Mandl emphasized that there had been a lot of good things in the collaboration so far. “We can now build on that even more.”

Andreas SchiederSPÖ delegation leader in the EU Parliament, congratulated the US Democrats on their victory. The election results are “a reckoning with Trump’s autocratic course and his destructive foreign policy in recent years,” said Schieder. A course correction must now be initiated, said Schieder. “This also brings hope for a future rapprochement between Europe and the USA.”

“This is a massive defeat for Trump and a strong signal far beyond the USA,” rejoiced the Green Party’s foreign policy spokeswoman. Meri Disoskiby broadcast. “It shows that people can set limits on authoritarian politics at the ballot box.”
