Political scientist Herfried Münkler accuses the West of complicity in Russia’s attack on Ukraine. “NATO, including the USA, ultimately gave Putin a free hand,” Münkler said daily mirror. “The West could have responded to the Russian demands to a large extent and could have stipulated an ‘eternal’ neutrality status for Ukraine based on the Finnish model,” said Münker.
It had been decided not to put Ukraine under the protective umbrella of NATO. In this way, Putin was given “carte blanche”.
