More than 2 million refugees left Ukraine, about 100 thousand of them in Russia and Belarus

According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, as of 12:00 on March 8, more than 2 million refugees left the territory of Ukraine, forced to leave their homes in the war zone.

More than 1.2 million refugees have already arrived in Poland from Ukraine, almost 200 thousand in Hungary, more than 140 thousand in Slovakia, more than 80 thousand in Moldova, more than 80 thousand in Romania, more than 200 thousand in other European countries .

At the same time, according to the UN, about 100,000 refugees from Ukraine arrived in Russia and Belarus.

At the same time, the head of the National Defense Control Center of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mizintsev, claims that more than 2.5 million requests have been received from Ukrainians to evacuate them to Russia (not confirmed by independent sources).

“As the situation continues to evolve, about 4 million people may leave Ukraine,” the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said.

The organization clarifies that the right to free movement within the Schengen area means that there are very few border controls in the European Union, so arrival data for Hungary, Poland and Slovakia only reflect border crossings in these countries, but the UN estimates that a large number of people moved to other countries.

In addition, UNHCHR does not take into account persons from border countries leaving Ukraine and returning home.
