Israel mediates between US and Saudi Arabia

Egyptian President Abd al-Fattah el-Sisi and Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett have assumed mediation between the US and Saudi Arabia, according to the London-based Al-Arabi al-Jadid newspaper.

Relations between the two states deteriorated sharply after the Democratic administration came to power in the United States. President Joe Biden accused the heir to the throne of the kingdom, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, of the murder of opposition publicist Jamal Khashoggi. The kingdom is unhappy with the rapprochement between the US and Iran.

After the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions against the Russian fuel and energy complex, the United States tried to get Saudi Arabia to increase oil production. This request was denied.
