In southwest Pakistan, an attack was carried out on a naval aviation base in Turbat. The attack was repelled, killing one soldier and at least five militants. The attackers used heavy weapons.
The largest separatist group operating in the region, the Balochistan Liberation Army, claimed responsibility for the attack.
This is the second separatist attack in a week. On March 20, militants attacked the port of Gwadar, which is important for trade with China. Two guards were killed. Eight militants were killed in a retaliatory strike by the Pakistani army.
