The city of the sea and parks – Travel
Kotka is called the park capital of Finland, because the city’s parks have collected several awards. There are a dozen parks in Kotka, each of which is unique. The specialty of Karhula Jokipuisto in the picture is a pond where colorful water lilies grow.

Kotka is located about an hour’s drive from Helsinki. In the city, you can explore award-winning parks, study fish in the Maretarium and hold your breath in Merikeskus Vellamo.

Marine the wooden parts of the shipwreck raised from the bottom seem to float. The wave patterns on the walls and the underwater soundscape create such an authentic image that I almost start holding my breath.

Merikeskus Vellamo Kohtalona Ruotinsalmi exhibition is an experiential excursion into history. In 1790, the largest sea battle in the Baltic Sea took place off Kotka. After that, the Ruotsinsalmi fortress was built, which was a large concentration with 10,000 inhabitants: three times larger than Helsinki at the time.
