Influencers, apps, GPS tracks: About the digitalization of mountain sports – travel

School classes in need, GPS tracks in the fall area and insensitive influencers: the smartphone, oh no, the whole digitalization is often seen as a danger for hikers and alpine nature. But is it really that bad?

At the start of this month, the German Alpine Association (DAV), which is equipped with sensors for mountain sport developments, sent a message to the world, as it does every year at this time. An app with “Artificial Alpine Intelligence”, or KAI for short, was presented, which the Alpine Club is bringing onto the market and which should soon make personal tour planning easier. KAI can put together perfect individual mountain experiences for users through constant listening. She (or is KAI male, even diverse?) would also book train tickets and overnight stays in huts, spy on potential tour partners, pay attention to the right paths, remember performance data and warn of changes in the weather. She can even take on packing backpacks and making arrangements with groups.
