Hollywood stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jesse Eisenberg will be honored at this year’s Carlsbad International Film Festival. The Americans will receive the festival president’s award at the beginning of July, as the organizers announced. The Festival President’s Prize goes outside the competition to “personalities who contribute in a significant way to the development of filmmaking”.
The 60th edition of the film festival will take place from July 3rd to 11th in the Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary. Founded in 1946, the film festival, which initially took place alternately with its Moscow counterpart, is one of the oldest in the world. Every summer it attracts tens of thousands of visitors from home and abroad to Karlsbad, which is located around 100 kilometers east of Bayreuth and 70 kilometers south of Chemnitz.
Modern adaptation of Frankenstein
The actress and director Gyllenhaal will show her feature film “The Bride! – Long Live the Bride” at the festival, which was released in German cinemas in March. The American presented a feminist reinterpretation of the Frankenstein legend. Jesse Eisenberg made a name for himself as Mark Zuckerberg in the drama “The Social Network.” In Carlsbad, he will appear in the lesser-known 2013 thriller “The Double.”
