What to eat to reduce dark eye circles?

Tomatoes, watermelon, avocado, and beets are rich in antioxidants that help promote blood circulation, contribute to the regeneration of skin structure, and reduce dark circles around the eyes.

The skin under the eyes is easily darkened due to lack of sleep, stress, and the habit of using alcoholic beverages. A diet lacking nutrients that support blood circulation also hinders collagen regeneration, weakening the skin structure around the eyes, forming dark areas.

According to Dr. Dao Thi Yen Thuy, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to creams, supplementing nutrients from foods rich in antioxidants and essential micronutrients contributes to improving skin pigmentation under the eyes.

Tomato

Lycopene in tomatoes has antioxidant properties, improves blood circulation, supports collagen production, and protects the skin from harmful UV rays. Each person can eat 1-2 tomatoes daily, preferably raw with salads, juices or smoothies to maintain healthy skin.

Cucumber

Cucumbers contain more than 95% water content and vitamins A, C and K. Eating about one 100-150 g fruit a day helps replenish water for the body, maintain moisture in the skin under the eyes, and limit dull skin.

Watermelon

Watermelon has a high water content and also contains many antioxidants such as beta-carotene, vitamin C and lycopene. Eating 200g of watermelon every day not only replenishes the body with enough water, promotes the process of eliminating toxins, but also helps soothe tired eye areas.

Avocado

Avocados are rich in vitamin E, antioxidants, and healthy fats that contribute to providing essential nutrients for skin health. Eating about 1/2 avocado a day can help limit dry skin under the face, maintaining moisture and elasticity.

Beetroot

Beets are rich in betalain antioxidants along with vitamin C, magnesium and folate, which help promote blood purification and liver detoxification. Thanks to that, the skin’s pigmentation is improved from the inside, contributing to fading dark circles under the eyes. Use about 50-100 g of beetroot, preferably boiled or juiced, 2-3 times per week to help maintain skin brightness.

In addition to food, the addition of natural extracts such as cherry blossom, L-glutathione and red pomegranate also contributes to promoting skin recovery from within. These active ingredients help fade dark spots and can help skin become brighter and smoother.

Dr. Yen Thuy noted that there is no food that can instantly remove dark circles under the eyes. Improvement through nutrition requires a certain amount of time for the body to metabolize and gradually restore skin structure from the inside. Each person should get 7-8 hours of sleep every night and control stress to reduce the level of dark spots and maintain the health of the skin around the eyes.
