Israel has developed a technology that will increase the area of avocado plantations in the world

The Research Institute of the Upper Galilee (MIGAL) has developed a new technology to accelerate the cultivation of avocado seedlings using sterile artificial vegetative propagation (tissue culture).

The Maariv website writes that the technology will be used by BESTREE, a company created specifically for this purpose, and will be mainly grown for export.

Israeli scientists note that their development has a high economic potential.

Avocado is called “green gold”. About 15 million new avocado seedlings are planted worldwide every year. In 2018, the global avocado market was valued at around $13 billion and is estimated to grow to $21.6 billion in 2026.

In Israel, avocado plantations occupy 140,000 dunams, from which about 120,000 tons of crops are harvested annually, which are exported and sold to the local market.
