German electric cars will be produced in North Macedonia

The government of North Macedonia and Germany’s Next e.GO Mobile today signed an agreement on state aid for the investment of the German electric car manufacturer in Tetovo.

As it was announced at the signing of that contract, the investment is being made, which envisages the complete production of electric IGO (e.GO) cars in the Technological-Industrial Development Zone (TIRZ) “Tetovo”.

The contract, supporting the investment for the production of electric cars with a German company, was signed by the Directorate for Technological-Industrial Development Zones on behalf of the Government of North Macedonia, but the details of that document were not published.

The Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovačevski, said that “the foundations of the investment are being laid today, which in the first phase alone “weighs 130 million euros” and which will open at least 890 new well-paid jobs”.

The electric car “i go” that will be produced at TIRZ in Tetovo is, as he pointed out, “useful for urban environments and at the same time sustainable, innovative, economical and without harmful gas emissions”.

“The factory that will be built here in the TIRZ zone in Tetovo is an integral part of the global production capacity of ‘IGO’ intended to supply both the national and international export markets,” Kovačevski said.

Minister of Economy Krešnik Bekteši assessed that “with this multi-million dollar investment by the company ‘I gou’ in TIRZ Tetovo, where electric vehicles will be produced for the first time in North Macedonia, a new era begins in the field of foreign investments, but also for citizens in the use of electric cars”.

“At the same time, this investment will bring new technologies and knowledge from the automotive industry that will be significant for the development of industrial production, and this factory will also contribute to the strengthening of exports,” Bekteši pointed out.

The government of North Macedonia made a decision two days ago to support, as it was announced at the time, the multi-million dollar investment of Next e.GO Mobile SE from Aachen, Germany, which will create 3,000 to 4,000 new jobs in TIRZ “Tetovo”.
