One in four people is planning a holiday on a balcony

Around a quarter of those surveyed (26 percent) “probably don’t want to travel” this year. And one in three say political uncertainty is affecting summer plans. Vamed Vitality boss Klaus Hofmann says: “Many popular destinations are still being eliminated or at least have a big question mark. Many simply want to avoid the stress at the airport this year. Anyone who switches to a car or stays within the country retains control over their own vacation. This still seems to be a priority when planning summer this year. The number of undecided people is certainly high at more than a quarter shortly before the start of summer.”

For comparison: In the group of respondents, around 13 percent actually stayed at home in the summer over the past five years.

Stress relief

The survey results are also good news for the thermal spa operator. Relaxation, being able to switch off and reducing stress clearly lead the field of health and wellness motives at 54.1 percent, ahead of exercise and physical fitness (32.5 percent), healthy eating and regional cuisine (27.4 percent).

When vacationing in Austria, nature experiences are the main focus: vacations at the lake (32 percent) and nature and mountain experiences (29 percent) top the plans; More than a quarter (26 percent) want to go to a thermal spa or wellness hotel – in Vienna one or one in three (33 percent).

“Holidays in Austria stand for many things that are more in demand than ever in turbulent times: holidays in nature, simply winding down and putting your cell phone aside, avoiding additional stress when you arrive. Our houses are well booked. But if you’re still spontaneously looking for a special break, you’ll find space with us,” advertises Hofmann.
