The US Aviation Authority FAA lets around 470 Boeing 737 Max aircraft on Check cracks around doors. A Boeing spokesman said this Wall Street Journal, that problem been in recent years occurred in the predecessor 737 Next Generation.
The cracks have not yet been observed in the Max fleet – but since their design and production processes are similar in this area, the inspections have been extended to them.
Verification becomes mandatory
The FAA made it mandatory to check some 737-8, 737-9 and 737-8200 Max aircraft for cracks in a front door corner. The order takes effect on September 10th.
Cracks could compromise the structural integrity of the machines, it said. Boeing has struggled with various quality problems in recent years, but has recently made significant progress.
