101 years after the birth of Rosario Castellanos, intellectuals, artists and followers of her work placed a wreath in her honor in the Rotunda of Illustrious Persons, where her remains rest. During the tribute, they highlighted the validity of the thought of the writer, journalist and diplomat from Chiapas, whose work continues to dialogue with the social and feminist debates of the 21st century.
“Celebrating Rosario Castellanos is an act of great magnitude, because we recognize in her that she possesses invaluable values in her life, literary, journalistic and feminist works; in her formidable poetry, and in her diplomatic professions,” said journalist Kyra Núñez de León, who in 2012 obtained the Rosario Castellanos medal in recognition of her work and personal career.
He mentioned that after the cultural and political activities carried out during the centenary of her birth in 2025, in Chiapas, other states of Mexico and abroad, “we can say to our joy that we know her more than before. Her life has been reproduced and recreated so much that the joy is for adults and youth.”
The journalist considered the creation of universities with his name a coherent gesture with Castellanos’ legacy, because it recovers a reflection of the writer: “it is not equitable, and it is not legitimate, that one has the opportunity to be formed intellectually and that the other has no alternative but to remain mired in ignorance.”

Núñez de León highlighted the facets of feminist, teacher, woman in love and friend of Castellanos, who has germinated into an unstoppable current of the female gender, whose will and wisdom are no longer in doubt. “We became abused, as she asked us, so as not to be the women that society imposes on us.
“In this time of women we have coined the new human category, that of women of gender equality, of education, of well-being, of justice, and even of equality of peace. Let me say it: of peace here where she was born, and of peace and pacification, or of returning to peace in the country where she died.”
During the tribute, the recent restoration of the sphinx and the tomb of Castellanos was also highlighted, in the Rotunda of Illustrious Persons, within the Panteón Dolores, after intellectuals and cultural promoters managed their rehabilitation before federal authorities.
“Most of the letters with his name fell off; you couldn’t read it. His figure was damaged, it seemed like acid had been thrown at him, and the legend sculpted on the tomb could not be read,” said Núñez de León, who noticed the deterioration of the monument in May 2025 and began the steps for its rehabilitation.
Present at that event were María Valera, a painter from Chiapas, and Alma Mireya Navarro Cruz, general director of Civic Development, National Identity and Democratic Linkage of the Ministry of the Interior.
