Pontormo, the monographic exhibition at the Scuderie Quirinale from October

The first large dedicated monographic exhibition will open on 9 October at the Scuderie del Quirinale in Rome in Pontormo (Jacopo da Pontormo; Pontorme, Empoli, 1494 – Florence, 1557).

The artist among collectors and the general public

The exposition

The exhibition promoted by Ales – Scuderie del Quirinale in partnership con le Uffizi Galleries, produced together with the publishing house Electis edited by Cristina Acidini, among the leading experts of Florentine sixteenth century, with the support of a team of authoritative scholars that includes Elena Capretti, Philippe Costamagna, Bruce Edelstein e Carlo Falciani. It will be an opportunity to see reunited all the main masterpieces by the artist, together with an extraordinary selection of works on paper.

The works on display

In addition to the large number of works arriving from Uffizi Galleriesexceptional loans from museums and collections all over the world (the Galleria dell’Accademia and Musei del Bargello, the Central Institute for Graphics, the Louvre, the National Gallery, the British Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and others) will be compared in the rooms of the Scuderie del Quirinale starting from Pontormo’s best-known and most recognized masterpiece, the Visitation coming from Church of San Michele Arcangelo of Carmignano, near Prato. A highly spectacular route mostly chronological but not without thematic lungesi.

The catalog published by Electa will represent a reference pointrigorous and updated, for the knowledge of Pontormo in context historical and cultural of sixteenth-century Florence and of painting between the mature Renaissance and Mannerism.
