Swedish band Roxette’s North American tour has been unexpectedly cancelled. The band announced about it on social media on Friday.
According to the band, the event organizer Live Nation has decided to postpone the tour “due to logistical reasons and hugely increased tour costs”.

On Saturday, founding member of Roxette, composer-lyricist Per Gessle released a statement in which he said the band was disappointed and said the decision to cancel the shows was the sole decision of Live Nation in the US, and was likely based on the event organizer’s own calculations.
“We were really looking forward to this tour, as the US is also our single largest market for streaming. […] I hope we can play in the US and Canada at some point in the near future.”
On Roxette there were to be two concerts in Canada and twelve in the United States. They were supposed to be organized in outdoor arenas. The tour was scheduled to begin on September 10.
In addition to the headliner Roxette, other performers would have been a British singer-songwriter Nick Lowe and an American singer and actress Taylor Dayne.
Vain a few days before the tour cancellation news Billboard told Roxette’s romantic hit ballad It Must Have Been Love having crossed the billion view mark on Youtube.
It is the band’s first music video that has crossed the billion mark. The song was released almost 40 years ago in 1987. The song is remembered Julia Roberts and Richard Geren from the movie he starred in Pretty Woman (1990).
It Must Have Been Love is one of Roxette’s four US chart-toppers and the only song to stay at number one for more than a week.
In the year The original members of the pop group founded in 1986 were the singer Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. Fredriksson died of cancer in 2019 and performed with Roxette for the last time in 2016.
Per Gessle decided to revive the band in 2025 and replaced Fredriksson with a new singer, by Lena Philipsson. The reformed Roxette is currently touring in Germany.
In Finland, the band will be seen in Tammisaari on August 15 at the Raseborg Summerfest event.
