In the Czech Republic, doctors mixed up patients, resulting in a pregnant woman losing her baby

In the Czech Republic, a pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage after doctors mistakenly performed an operation on her, confusing her with another patient, Meduza reported, citing CNN Prima News.

A pregnant woman came to the Bulovka University Hospital in Prague for a routine examination, and, as the TV channel clarifies, she was healthy. At the same time, another patient came to the clinic. She had to undergo an operation, which is performed to treat diseases of the uterus, but can also be used to terminate a pregnancy. Both patients were foreigners permanently residing in the Czech Republic. Their names are not disclosed.

As a result of non-compliance with internal regulations, “the operation was started with an incorrectly identified patient.”

The hospital apologized to the patient who lost her fetus and promised to pay her compensation. “We assured her that we would do everything possible to mitigate the damage as much as possible,” it added. A spokeswoman later said that the doctors who made the mistake were suspended and the hospital was conducting an internal investigation.

The Czech Ministry of Health expressed regret to the injured woman and said that they consider the incident an “unforgivable human factor”, the perpetrators of which will be suspended from work.

Czech police said they began to deal with the incident in Bulovka and contacted the hospital, and also issued an appeal to both women, asking them to call or come to any police station.
