Do we need to wear sunscreen when traveling by car?

The sun is hotter than 40 degrees, even sitting in the car feels hot, do I need to wear sunscreen? (Son, 29 years old, Hanoi).

Hot sun and harmful UV rays make you feel hot, tired, and uncomfortable. The burning sensation is because the fabric is absorbing heat. Even sitting in a car with the windows closed is still affected, especially when you have to travel long distances or during hot rush hours.

In addition, car windows cannot block UVA rays, and some doors cannot block UVB rays. Therefore, you should wear sunscreen or other protective measures when traveling by car.

To protect your skin, you should cover exposed skin areas such as your face, neck, and areas in contact with the steering wheel such as your wrists…

Choose sun-protective clothing, long-sleeved jackets, and gloves to shield your skin and prevent sunlight from penetrating. It is not necessary to buy clothes that are advertised to protect against UV rays or wear many layers of clothing, but you can choose fabrics with high coverage, tight, thick fibers and dark colors. Shirts made from jeans, cotton… prevent UV rays from damaging the skin, soothe the skin, and help the skin avoid irritation.

Some clothes have a UPF label, which tells you exactly how much the fabric shields you from the sun’s rays, helping you protect your skin accordingly. The higher the UPF number, the less light hits your skin. You should choose satin or cotton shirts to create a more pleasant and comfortable feeling when wearing. Clothes that fit the body, not too loose nor too tight.

When going out, you should wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to ensure coverage on your face, neck, and chest.

Use sunscreen with SPF 30-50. You can supplement sunscreen pills to protect your skin. Drink plenty of water and avoid direct exposure to sunlight for long periods of time.
