Pole vaulter Alysha Newman was suspended for 20 months

Canadian pole vault Olympic medalist Alysha Newman has been banned for 20 months for a doping violation.

Newman, 31, failed to provide whereabouts information three times in a 12-month period, according to the International Athletics Anti-Doping Unit (AIU).

Newman’s 20-month suspension began on December 3, 2025 and ends on August 2, 2027. All of Newman’s results after August 23, 2025 will be voided.

Newman will be released from his suspension before the next World Cup, which will be held in Beijing in September 2027.

Newman was placed on a temporary suspension on February 3, 2026.

Canadian was at the peak of his career at the time of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. He jumped a Canadian record 485 in Paris and took Olympic bronze.

Newman is also known as Finland’s pole star Wilma Heltelän as a friend and competitor.
