New striker: NHL professional Reichel strengthens Germany at the Ice Hockey World Cup

NHL professional Lukas Reichel will strengthen the German national ice hockey team at the World Cup in Switzerland. The 23-year-old striker has already landed in Zurich today and is ready for the opening game on Friday (4:20 p.m./ProSieben and MagentaSport) against Olympic bronze medalist Finland.

“We are convinced that he can add additional quality to our game,” explained national coach Harold Kreis. Dominik Bokk was removed from the squad by the Kölner Haien to replace Reichel.

Reichel played last season with the Chicago Blackhawks, the Vancouver Canucks and most recently the Boston Bruins. After being eliminated from the NHL playoffs, he went on the ice for the Providence Bruins farm team.

Participation in the World Cup previously failed because Reichel did not yet have a new contract in the North American league. The German Ice Hockey Association announced that Reichel has now signed a new contract. However, the team is not yet known.

Reichel was active for the DEB selection at both the Winter Olympics and the 2025 World Cup in Denmark.
