Bundesliga: Bayer sports director Rolfes: No commitment to coach Hjulmand

Bayer Leverkusen’s sports director Simon Rolfes has avoided making a commitment to coach Kasper Hjulmand. After the 1-1 draw against Hamburger SV and missing out on the Champions League, Rolfes said: “We always want to have clarity on as many things as possible as quickly as possible.” Rolfes was asked by when a decision should be made about the coach from Denmark, who is bound until the summer of 2027.

Sports director Rolfes and Bayer boss Fernando Carro went into the dressing room immediately after the final whistle to speak to the team. According to Rolfes, the coaching question and Hjulmand were not an issue. “I don’t have to tell the team anything for now unless we make another decision. Kasper has a contract and we said that we would focus on the Champions League until the last second,” said Rolfes.

After the game, Hjulmand said about his future on Sky: “What I talk to Simon is between us. It’s not my job to speculate.”

Flekken: “Satisfied” with Hjulmand

A departure of the Dane, who took over from Erik ten Hag shortly after the start of the season and stabilized the team, is considered likely after finishing sixth in the Bundesliga. Hjulmand received encouragement from the team.

“I get along great with him, I’m happy with him. If he gets the time to work on this team during the summer preparation, things will move forward,” said goalkeeper Mark Flekken. Flekken made it clear that Hjulmand was not responsible for the team’s lack of energy.
