Croatia against Portugal will be refereed by a man who is not fondly remembered by the people of Dinamo

Croatia will play a World Cup round of 16 match against Portugal on Thursday night at 1:00 a.m. It is known who will deliver justice in that encounter. It will be Norwegian Espen Eskas.

He refereed Croatia in the first match of the League of Nations quarterfinal against France when Croatia won 2-0 at Poljud. He also refereed Portugal once, in the qualifiers for the 2024 European Championship. The Portuguese were better in that match with 4-0.

Eskas served justice in the second leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League against AEK in Athens in 2023, one of the Blues’ heaviest European defeats. Then the ‘blues’ were leading 2-0 and in the end the Greeks reached 2-2 and eliminated Dinamo.

This will be Eskas’s second match at this World Cup, as he has only refereed the match between Cape Verde and Uruguay so far.
