However, his sporting situation has already changed significantly over the course of the last second half of the season,” said sports director Claus Costa. “After close consultation with the coaches, we came to the decision that Jean-Luc no longer has any prospects in our plans for the upcoming season.”

Drunk driving as a turning point

Dompé came to HSV from Zulte Waregem in Belgium in the summer of 2022 and has played 87 competitive games for the North Germans so far. Last season, the Frenchman played an increasingly smaller role in coach Merlin Polzin’s plans.

At the end of January he made negative headlines by driving while drunk and had since been suspended. Dompé also had to pay a six-figure fine. The current decision to release the Frenchman was made “exclusively for sporting reasons,” said sports director Kathleen Krüger.
