Skiing, Zermatt/Cervinia excluded from the World Cup

Now it’s official: Zermatt/Cervinia’s dream of writing a page in the history of the Alpine Skiing World Cup with a series of downhill races is over, that is, competing in a cross-border race that has never been held before. “After in-depth consultation with the athletes, their teams and other stakeholders involved in the event, FIS, Swiss-Ski and the Italian Winter Sports Federation have agreed not to include Zermatt/Cervinia in the draft 2024 Alpine calendar/ 25”. The International Federation (FIS) officially communicated this after the news had emerged yesterday. What would have been the first cross-border World Cup races were part of the men’s and women’s calendars in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons but did not take place due to unfavorable weather conditions in both years.
