The smartphone that creates fake videos and also tries to unmask them

There is a paradox that describes the new phase of smartphones with artificial intelligence well: the same device that allows you to create a video that never existed also tries to help the user understand when content is false.

It is the thin thread on which the new Honor 600 series moves, presented with a positioning that looks to creators, but intercepts the much broader question of the relationship between generative creativity, trust in images and recognizability of artificial contents.

The heart of the proposal is AI Image to Video 2.0, a function that allows you to transform static images into short video sequences generated by artificial intelligence. The user can combine up to three images with natural language instructions to produce videos from 3 to 8 seconds, also defining the starting and ending frames and choosing from cinematic templates designed to obtain stylized content in just a few steps.

The telephone becomes a small visual production machine that allowsinventing movement, atmosphere and editing starting from real or constructed starting materials. A dedicated AI button allows direct access to generating videos from the gallery, while the AI ​​Photos agent allows natural language-guided editing.

The theme of “fake videos” thus becomes part of the new language of smartphones. The generated content it’s not necessarily misinformation: it can be a creative clip, an animated memory, a social content, an editing exercise. But the same technology that simplifies creation also lowers the threshold for visual manipulation.

The deepfake challenge

Honor seems to recognize this ambivalence by integrating it into the 600 series too deepfake detection tools and AI-generated voice cloning, available for some apps.

At a time when artificial intelligence is an environment in which content is produced, modified, interpreted and verified, the telephone is a creative studio, but also the first filter of authenticity.

It does not replace human control nor does it solve the problem of disinformation alone, but brings to the device a function that until recently belonged mainly to platforms, professional software or external analysis tools.

The camera in the center

However, the Honor 600 series does not only focus on generative AI. The photographic equipment remains central: the Honor 600 model integrates an ultra-clear 200 megapixel night camera with a 1/1.4″ sensor, flanked by a 12 megapixel ultra wide-angle and macro camera and a 50 megapixel front camera. The Pro model adds a 50 megapixel periscope telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom.

On the hardware level, Honor 600 is equipped with Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, while Honor 600 Pro uses Snapdragon 8 Elite. Both have 6.57-inch AMOLED displays with a 120 Hz refresh rate and peak brightness declared up to 8,000 nits in certain scenarios. The battery indicated for Honor 600 is 6,400 mAhwith wired charging up to 80W, while the Pro version adds 50W wireless charging.

The AI ​​part also extends to integration with Google Gemini. Honor is offering a three-month free trial of Google AI Pro for the 600 series, with access to features such as video generation based on Veo 3.1, image generation with Nano Banana Pro, AI Flow, NotebookLM and 5 TB of cloud storage.

The result is a smartphone that photographs, generates, corrects, interprets and warns. A trajectory now evident in the mobile market in which the camera functions as an interface between reality and simulation. Honor 600 tries to stay on both sides of the line. And perhaps this is it the most interesting point of the launch: the phone that helps produce the fake is also the one that begins to wonder how to reveal it.
