Foldable iPhone reveals design, expected to only come in white

Sonny Dickson, known as a “leak expert” for sharing a lot of accurate information about Apple products, posted on social network X some images of the completed model of the first folding screen iPhone model. This is considered the closest and clearest look at the design of the upcoming groundbreaking product line.

A dummy is a non-working device, built with precision in size and design to send to manufacturers of accessories such as cases before the device is officially released.

According to Dickson’s image, the folding iPhone, expected to be called Ultra, has a notebook shape with a 4:3 screen ratio. When opened, the device is wider than it is tall, a different direction from existing folding smartphones on the market such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. Previously leaked parameters showed that the device has a 5.5-inch external screen. When opened, the main OLED screen inside reaches 7.8 inches, slightly smaller than the iPad mini.

The new series of photos also reveal many details about the device. The device is said to have a titanium frame with a record thinness, about 4.5 mm. The volume up and down keys have been moved to the top edge. Apple will remove the Action button and replace Face ID with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button.

The back has a horizontal dual camera cluster similar to the iPhone Air. The flash is placed under the microphone. The back microphone part has also been redesigned with 5 small drilled holes. The external secondary screen is edge-to-edge and slightly curved. Meanwhile, the selfie camera on the main screen is placed in the top left corner.

Sonny Dickson said “it seems unlikely that Apple will offer many color options. White is the only option for now”. The information is the same as previously revealed from Instant Digital that Apple is considering dropping the black version. And expert Mark Gurman of Bloomberg also said that Apple will avoid colorful colors on folding devices, sticking to traditional color tones.

Some of the company’s recent technology-defining products, such as the Apple Watch Ultra or Vision Pro glasses, are only available in one color when on sale. The 10th anniversary iPhone X model also only had two basic colors: silver and gray, before adding gold the following year.

The first generation folding screen iPhone is expected to be announced by Apple in September with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max duo. According to Mark Gurman, the starting price of this product “certainly exceeds the $2,000 threshold”.
