Apple drastically increased the prices of MacBook and iPad. Here are the details

Apple has raised the prices of some of its most popular devices due to the sharp rise in the cost of memory and data chips, which the company blames on the increasing demand caused by the development of artificial intelligence and the construction of AI data centers. The price increases are moreć entered into force. The entry-level model MacBook Neo now costs $699 instead of the previous $599, while the basic iPad has gone up from $349 to $449. The iPad Mini is also $100 more expensive, and its new price is $599, reports CNN.

Other Apple products also received higher prices. Apple TV now costs $199 instead of $129, the Vision Pro headset went up in price from $3,499 to $3,699, while the HomePod is $50 more expensive and now costs $349.

New prices moreć are visible in Apple’s online store, although some retailers, such as Best Buy and Target, have not yet updated them and are still showing the old amounts.

Apple said that the increasing number of AI data centers has caused an exceptional growth in the demand for memory and data storage, adding that they have never before witnessed such a large and rapid increase in the prices of components.

A spokesperson for Apple said that the company has reached a point where it has to increase the prices of some of its products, including the iPad and Mac computers. He added that they are aware that customers will not be satisfied with that decision, but that they are working intensively on finding a solution.

The announcement of the price increase was also reflected in the stock market, so Apple’s shares fell 4.5 percent on Thursday, which is their biggest one-day drop in the last four months.

The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, warned last week that price increases are inevitable due to the shortage of memory chips. He pointed out that the huge construction of AI data centers around the world strongly increased the demand for chips, which led to a significant increase in their prices.

Cook told the Wall Street Journal that Apple is doing everything to mitigate the huge cost increases that are passed on to the company and that they have long tried to protect customers from price increases. However, he emphasized that the situation has become unsustainable.

Despiteč price increases, Apple has not yet changed the prices of its iPhones and AirPods, which remain at their current levels.
