OpenClaw brings AI agents to mobile phones with its native app for iOS and Android

OpenClaw has officially launched its application for smartphones, which allows users to interact directly with Artificial Intelligence (AI) agents and grant them access to some of their key functions.

Initially released as Clawdbot, OpenClaw became a viral phenomenon in early 2026 as a open source AI autonomous agents project with the ability to control all the functions of a computer, like an agent at the user’s service capable of carrying out any task.

Its rapid popularity led to the move of its creator, Peter Steinberger, to the OpenAI company in February, which left the platform at the service of the OpenClaw Foundation. Since then, its autonomous capability has achieved issues such as allowing users turn OpenClaw into another contact on WhatsApp or Telegram to ask for tasks that the agent executed directly on the user’s computer.

Now, OpenClaw has announced the launch of a native application for iOS and Android devices, With which users will be able to integrate these capabilities of autonomous AI agents directly into their smartphones and, therefore, into their pockets.

This was shared by the platform through a publication on the social network run agents “from wherever your thumbs are” to carry out tasks and get “answers in motion.” In practice, these apps offer the ability to chat with the AI ​​assistant and guarantee you access to key components of the ‘smartphone’ such as the camera, screen, location, photos or contacts.

However, the open source philosophy and local privacy that drove the use of OpenClaw at the beginning of the year remains fundamental in the OpenClaw ‘app’ for mobile phones, which is now available in the Google Play Store and App Store.

It must be taken into account that the OpenClaw ‘app’ does not work as a standalone chatbot that processes the AI ​​within the mobile, but acts as a peer connection node for a secure connection to the central OpenClaw server (the real ‘Gateway’). Thus, the ‘app’ requests this connection from the first screen that appears when OpenClaw is started on both Android and iOS.

I mean, really the ‘app’ works like a bridge so that the agent can use the GPS, camera or microphone of the mobile phone. The fact that it is ‘open source’ allows developers to see how the application manages these sensitive permissions.

It should be noted that this experience of autonomous AI agents that is now being transferred to mobile phones set off all the alarms for the cybersecurity community when critical vulnerabilities were found.
