Robot fights leave the virtual arenas of video games to become a real sport. It’s called REK (a term inspired by the slang “get rekt”) and it debuts in Tokyo with a format that combines technology, physical competition and entertainment, transforming duels between humanoids into a live show for the general public.
The Japanese event represents the international launch of a product already tested in various arenas in the United States and which promises to conquer more and more audiences, both inside the arenas and in real packages prepared for television and social networks, in particular Instagram, TikTok and YouTube,

The rules of the Rek
Historic competitions like ROBO-ONE require participants to design and program their own models; REK instead uses commercial humanoid robots, such as the platforms produced by the Chinese Unitree, piloted in real time via virtual reality viewers by human operators. The dynamics of the matches reward balance, agility, reaction speed and the ability of the machines to recover their position after a fall.
The boom of robots and physical AI
The tournament fits into a phase of strong acceleration for robotics. In the last two years, companies such as Unitree and Booster Robotics have brought increasingly economical and robust platforms onto the market, capable of performing complex dynamic movements, making the organization of live meetings technically sustainable.
The organizers frame REK as a new technological sport, akin to eSports or drone competitions. The competing models derive directly from the platforms used in industrial research and development, appropriately adapted to compete in an arena.

Rek’s entertainment as a business driver
The humanoid sector today represents one of the main development fronts of physical artificial intelligence, attracting billions in investments for use in factories and logistics. REK’s goal is to consolidate these machines as an entertainment product, creating a show capable of attracting sponsors and enthusiasts like video game tournaments.
A vocation confirmed by the company’s co-founder, Cix Liv, who reiterated that live entertainment currently represents the most logical and accessible application area for democratizing and commercializing humanoid platforms on the civilian market.
