ByteDance would be paying influencers to promote Lemon8 and circumvent TikTok's ban in the US.

ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, is promoting the use by ‘influencers’ of its applications, Lemon8, with the aim of facing bans on its most popular social network.

Lemon8 is a social network developed by Heliophilia that ByteDance launched in 2020 more focused on publishing photographs and discovering new trends, similar to Instagram, which has grown in users by 19 percent so far in March, according to data from Apptopia collected by New York Post.

This growth is linked to the increase in the presence of the so-called ‘influencers’ at Lemon8, whom ByteDance would be paying to use and promote this other app, according to the aforementioned media and shared by social media analyst Matt Navarra.

This move could be ByteDance’s way of getting around the ban on using TikTok in the United States, according to sources close to the legislation. Specifically, it refers to the approval in the House of Representatives of the bill that seeks to veto TikTok unless ByteDance agrees to its sale.
