Macron, Scholz, Draghi and Iohannis call for “immediately” granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership

The chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, the prime minister of Italy, Mario Draghi, the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, and his Romanian counterpart, Klaus Iohannis, have urged this Thursday from kyiv to grant Ukraine “immediately” the status of candidate to accession to the European Union.

This has been confirmed by Macron during a press conference after the four met with the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, in the Mariyinski presidential palace during a visit to the country that takes place in the midst of the war with Russia and in which the leaders have conveyed their support to the Ukrainian government.

“The four of us support the status of a candidate for Ukraine to become a member of the European Union,” he asserted, before indicating that this “will be accompanied by a ‘roadmap'” and will also mean that “the situation in the Balkans and especially in Moldova”.
