Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said that the new leader of the Islamic Republic, Mojtaba Khamenei, is completely healthy, and the fact that he does not appear in public is explained by military conditions.
Baghai stressed that the Islamic Republic is the only legitimate representative of the Iranian people, and the attacks on its leaders did not affect the resolve of the Iranians. The official noted that there are no direct contacts with the United States, but Iran receives the message through intermediaries, including Pakistan.
He called the US demands excessive and unreasonable. According to him, the United States entered the war on the basis of miscalculation and because of Israeli influence. “The vicious circle of war, negotiations and truce does not suit us,” he said.
On April 1, US President Donald Trump said on the social network Truth Social that the Iranian side had asked Washington for a ceasefire.
“Iran’s new president, significantly less radical and much smarter than his predecessors, has just asked the US for a truce!” – he wrote, adding that he would consider this appeal only on the condition: “When the Strait of Hormuz is open, free and clean.” Otherwise, Trump warned, the United States “will bomb Iran and throw it back to the Stone Age.”
