Iran abandons plans to open the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has abandoned plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, reintroducing restrictions on traffic through the critical route.

Iran’s joint military command said that “control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state under the strict management and supervision of the armed forces.”

Tehran has warned that it will continue to block transit through the strait as long as the US blockade of Iranian ports is in effect.

The announcement came the morning after US President Donald Trump stressed that the US blockade “will remain in full force” until Tehran reaches an agreement with Washington, including on its nuclear program.
