Iran sends US revised proposal for negotiations

Iran, through Pakistani mediators, has sent a revised proposal for negotiations to the United States, IRNA reported on Friday, May 1.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai said Tehran was seeking lasting peace in talks with Washington, despite statements from senior clerics and lawmakers that talks on the nuclear program and the Strait of Hormuz were no longer ongoing.

A few hours earlier, the new formal Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, said that the Islamic Republic would maintain its nuclear and missile capabilities, despite the demands of US President Donald Trump and American strikes on Iranian targets, Iranian state television reported.

The statement, read out on Iranian TV, said that the only place for Americans in the Persian Gulf is “at the bottom of its waters.” According to Mojtaba Khamenei, a “new chapter” is beginning in the history of the region. In fact, it was announced that Iran was ready for a new war.

The authorship of this statement is questioned by many experts.
