At the beginning of March, Spears was stopped by the police while driving her black BMW 430i near Los Angeles and had to spend a night in police custody. She was “driving erratically at high speeds,” the Los Angeles Times reported. It is not known which drug she took.

Her management then spoke of an “absolutely inexcusable” incident and said that Spears would now “take the right steps and abide by the law.” According to media reports, the singer went to a rehab clinic for treatment.

Spears became a superstar as a teenager in 1998 with “Baby One More Time,” followed by hits like “Oops! … I Did It Again” and “Toxic.” In 2008, the singer was temporarily admitted to a clinic because of psychological problems. Her father Jamie took over guardianship of the musician and thus controlled not only his daughter’s personal and artistic interests, but also her assets. The guardianship only ended at the end of 2021 after a long legal dispute.

In her 2023 biography “The Woman in Me,” Spears stated that she had never taken hard drugs. “I liked to drink, but I never lost control,” she writes. However, she admitted taking Adderall, a stimulant medication used to treat ADHD.
