Ukraine-Russia, Trump announces truce: how long it lasts and what it foresees

American President Donald Trump announced ”a three-day ceasefire (9, 10 and 11 May) in the war between Russia and Ukraine”. In his Truth Social Trump stated that ”Victory Day is celebrated in Russia, but also in Ukraine, since both countries played an important role in the Second World War”.

What does the truce involve?

Trump explained that ”this ceasefire involves the suspension of all war activities and an exchange of a thousand prisoners between the two countries. This request was made directly by me and I very much appreciate the agreement reached by President Vladimir Putin and President Volodymyr Zelensky”.

Trump also wrote that “talks to end the conflict” in Ukraine, “the largest since World War II, continue and we are getting closer and closer to a solution”. And he added, referring to the three-day truce: “I hope this is the beginning of the end of a long, bloody and hard-fought war”.

Yesterday the Kremlin said that, starting from midnight today, a two-day truce in the war against Ukraine would come into force.
