KBC Osijek denied Kekin: ‘The public is being misled’

On Wednesday, the directorate of Osijek’s KBC denied the statements of MP Ivana Kekin about the length of the waiting list at that health facility, they believe that part of the data is inaccurate or not presented in full context, and the public is being misled. At a recent press conference in Osijek, Kekin stated, among other things, that at KBC Osijek, the waiting time for a colonoscopy is 187 days, for an abdominal CT scan 267 days, for a cardiologist’s examination 156 days, and for a breast ultrasound more than 400 days. The Directorate of the Osijek KBC reported that the first breast ultrasound examination currently takes 19 days. while the waiting time for mammography is 13 days.

When the wordč about CT diagnostics, all patients who need an urgent CT examination receive priority appointments in accordance with medical indications and the assessment of competent doctors. Emergency and oncology patients are treated without delay.

The waiting list for the first preventive examination by a cardiologist is 156 days, for gastroscopy 96 days, and for colonoscopy 126 days. We emphasize that the wordč about elective examinations, while all emergency situations are taken care of immediately, in the management of Osijek KBC.

They believe that the data presented by Kekin are not up-to-date, that part of the said data does not refer to the waiting lists, and that to the lists of orders for control inspections and that part of the presented data was misinterpreted.

“Such selective and inaccurate presentation of information misleads the public, creates a false impression about the availability of health care and harms patients and the health system as a whole,” they said.

They note that KBC Osijek “continually makes maximum efforts to reduce waiting lists and provide patients with timely health care”. In addition to regular work, employees work additional hours on weekends and holidays and work a large number of overtime hours in order to perform as many diagnostic and specialist examinations as possible.

“We consider it unacceptable to denigrate the work of healthcare professionals who take care of patients with dedication and professionalism every day. Doctors, nurses and technicians and all other employees of KBC Osijek make an extraordinary effort to provide citizens with high-quality and safe health care,” reads the announcement of the Directorate of KBC Osijek.

They remind and look forward to the realization of the construction of the new KBC Osijek, because the new hospital complex will further improve the provision of health services from all aspects for the citizens of eastern Croatia.
