Plenković welcomes the Slovenian decision to abolish surveillance at the borders with Croatia

“We welcome the decision of the Slovenian government of Janez Janša to abolish temporary surveillance on the border with Croatia, which enables the full application of the free transit zone for vehicles and passengers in Schengen. Croatia and Slovenia continue to build good-neighborly relations and strengthen cooperation in solving illegal migration and other forms of criminal activities,” the prime minister wrote on platform X.

On Thursday, the Slovenian government made a decision to abolish the temporary surveillance on the borders with Croatia and Hungary, which had been in effect since October 2023. In the future, border controls will be replaced by so-called compensatory measures along the state border and in the interior of the country.

Another eight member states of the Schengen area still have temporary internal border controls – Austria, Denmark, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Germany and Sweden.
