Texas: Bible becomes compulsory reading in schools

For Texas students will be in the future Bible required reading. According to US media reports, the responsible authority in the state decided this Kathpress on Sunday. A corresponding book reading list for schools in Texas was approved on Friday.

Education officials in Texas justified the decision by citing “the Bible as an indispensable literary work important to understanding America’s founding history and culture.”

Texas is a Republican stronghold

Criticism, however, comes from supporters of a separation of church and state. “The government of Texas – let alone any other American government agency – should never be in the business of forcing a particular religion on all people,” said Rachel Laser of Americans United for Separation of Church and State New York Times.

Her organization had already sued a law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in Texas classrooms. Texas is considered a stronghold of US President Donald Trump’s Republicans.
