Iranian media reported the death of Mohammad Akbar-Zadeh, a senior naval officer of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as a result of an accident.
According to available information, Akbar-Zadeh, who served as deputy for political affairs of the Supreme Leader’s Representative Office to the IRGC Navy, died after his car overturned on a highway in Kerman province. The causes and circumstances of the accident are being investigated.
Mohammad Akbar-Zadeh was considered one of the prominent representatives of the IRGC naval command who formulated the Iranian approach to the Strait of Hormuz. In May, Reuters, citing Iranian state media, reported that it was he who announced the actual expansion of the Iranian definition of the Strait of Hormuz.
