Gift bags too expensive: Father demands 1.83 euros after a child’s birthday

Amsterdam (Netherlands) – It all started with a well-intentioned gesture – and ended in a heated discussion! A father asked the young guests’ parents exactly 1.83 euros after their children’s birthday party. The reason: The gift bags distributed for the little ones were more expensive than planned!

He sent his bill to the class WhatsApp group with the words: “Dear parents, I spent a little more than planned for today’s little gift. That’s 1.83 euros per child.” The father from the Netherlands had previously organized a celebration for his son. Some of his classmates were also invited. On the Dutch Mommy Blog “Mama Place” Blogger and mother Nova Mulder reported on the father’s unusual request. Her own daughter celebrated her fifth birthday shortly beforehand.

Mother thought it was a joke

“Like so many parents, I wanted to give her a little treat. Not a huge surprise or an elaborate Pinterest project that required me to work through three nights, but just a little bag with a bubble gun, a sheet of stickers, and a small box of raisins,” Mulder wrote. “A week later it was another little boy’s birthday. His father had also organized a nice celebration and everyone seemed happy.”

But the required 1.83 euros quickly caused dissatisfaction among parents. Mulder initially thought it was a joke. To show he was serious, the father sent a payment link into the class chat – then the discussion began.

Parents confront man

One mother replied that she had never heard of that Parents would have to contribute to the cost of gift bags. But the father remained stubborn at first and continued to insist on the 1.83 euros. Mulder also reports that he even created a small cost overview for each individual item in the gift bags.

After being confronted by several parents, the man finally gave in. “I noticed that not everyone approves of my suggestion. Never mind.” The father then deleted the link with the payment request.
