A 31-year-old Florida woman was mauled to death by an alligator while hiking with her partner last weekend, while the two stopped to swim in a river at a nature reserve.
Brittany Clark and her partner were hiking in the Akonalokahatchee River area of the “Little Big Akon” reserve, when during the trip they decided to stop and enter the water. According to authorities, Clark was in water only about 3 feet deep when a 12-foot alligator charged toward her and bit her.
According to authorities, the alligator grabbed one of Clark’s arms and completely tore it off. Her partner, Chance Allison, tried to fight him off in an attempt to save her life. According to the report, he managed to free one of her arms, but the alligator immediately grabbed her other arm.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Service spokesman Chad Weber said the couple stopped during the walk to swim. He said Clark was injured in both arms, while her partner was the one who called 911 and tried to free her from the alligator’s jaws. She was taken to the hospital, but died on the way from her injuries.
The New York Post reported that in the recording of the emergency call to 911, Alison was heard trying to stop the heavy bleeding while the two were on the river bank. One of the women present at the scene described her situation as “very difficult”, and said that one arm was completely torn off, while the other “was barely attached”.
In the recording, an agitated man is heard begging for help and saying that she is losing large amounts of blood and the bleeding must be stopped quickly. After the incident, the wildlife authority located the alligator. He was killed, and his head was cut off and kept as evidence as part of the investigation.
Clark loved the natural life and adventures, and on her social networks she published many photos from trips and various activities. She worked for years as a bulldozer operator, and in her free time used to attend rave parties. It was also reported that Clark was very fond of her pets, was interested in weapons, and often posted pictures of guns, pistols and motorcycles on social media.
