Meloni claims that Italy changed the management of migration in Europe and targets green policies

The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, claimed this Wednesday that the country has managed to change the management of migration in Europe, emphasizing that the model of her Executive is making way, while at the same time she has set the next objective to modify green policies.

“We had promised the Italians that we would change Europe in the management of migratory flows, and we are doing it. The return regulation is one of the most obvious demonstrations,” said the Italian leader in an interview with the newspaper ‘Il Giornale’, in reference to the European migration and asylum pact.

Meloni has stressed that the regulations approved at community level “allow us to repatriate more quickly those who do not have the right to stay with us and allow us to open repatriation centers in third countries, in fact following the path opened by Italy with the agreement with Albania”, influencing the influence of Rome on European legislation.

Thus, he has shown that the regulations were approved by a center-right majority, which in his opinion demonstrates how minority the positions of the Democratic Party and the Italian left, the opposition to the Italian right-wing tripartite party, are.

“The model of the Italian center-right is managing to have a concrete impact on European dynamics and we also hope to do so in other files, such as the green deal,” he stated, putting Europe’s ecological policy in the spotlight, after pointing out that a Europe “that responds concretely to the needs of its citizens and its companies” is necessary.

FALL OF MIGRATION

In this sense, asked about the drop in the arrival of migrants to Italy, the prime minister stressed as “a fact” that her Government has taken “an incredible turn” in immigration matters. “We have stopped once and for all the uncontrolled increase in illegal immigration that we had been observing for years and we can affirm, without fear of being denied, that Italy is no longer the refugee camp of Europe,” he stated.

Despite denouncing “obstacles” and “boycotts”, Meloni has claimed that his Executive has “drastically” reduced landings on its coasts and has “significantly” increased repatriations. “But, obviously, we want to do more, to consolidate this approach and turn it into something structural,” he indicated.

EXCLUDE FROM CIVIL COMPENSATION THOSE WHO COMMIT CRIMES

Regarding the controversial case of Mario Roggero, a 72-year-old jeweler sentenced to almost 15 years in prison for killing two thieves and wounding another who robbed his business, Meloni has defended the proposal for a new security law that excludes the possibility of claiming civil compensation from people in the context of crimes they have committed.

“It is a common sense measure, to prevent a person who has defended himself from being convicted twice, also running the risk of losing the fruit of a lifetime’s work and ending up in ruin,” he said about the case that has generated enormous controversy in Italy, with right-wing parties competing to support the jeweler.

Meloni has influenced this, in a clear reference to the Roggero case. “If you enter my house to rob me, kidnap me or attack me or my family and, while doing so, you suffer damage because I have reacted, I will be liable for possible criminal liability, but you, in any case, do not have the right to claim any compensation through civil means,” he said.
