The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, anticipated this Thursday the possibility that negotiations with Russia could be resumed before autumn, with the intermediation of the United States, according to the conversation he had the day before with the special envoys of the US president, Donald Trump.
“I think that then there will be a trilateral meeting (…) We must have all this ready by the autumn. I think we must work intensively on it,” he explained at a press conference in kyiv with the Irish Prime Minister, Micheál Martin.
“If it depended on us, it would be in July. But not everything depends on us,” said the Ukrainian president, who the day before spoke with Trump’s envoys, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, who are scheduled to visit Moscow.
Zelensky has also warned that before autumn the Ukrainian authorities also expect that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not only intensify the attacks, but will also announce a new mass mobilization. “It is preparing to expand the war,” he warned, according to the Ukrinform agency.
“There has not been a single day in which the Russian Army did not attack our civilians. That says a lot about who we fight against and what we defend,” said the Ukrainian leader, who took the opportunity to thank Ukraine’s European partners for this latest agreement to launch what is now the 21st package of sanctions against Russia.
“I thank all the leaders and all the countries of Europe for this support (…) We will collaborate with other partners outside the European Union so that they also include these new sanctions in their legal systems. The synchronization of the sanctions is of utmost importance,” the Ukrainian president remarked.
