Trump confirms that Xi will visit the US on September 24

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has confirmed that his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, will visit Washington on September 24 and that he will talk with the president of the Asian giant on issues such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“President Xi will come on September 24. We already talked about it (about Artificial Intelligence) when I was in Beijing and we will talk about it again,” he said during a speech to present his plan to protect consumers from the increase in the cost of electricity linked to the data centers that support AI.

This comes after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke on the sidelines of a meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers in Manila about the need to identify areas of cooperation to lay the foundation for a “very positive visit.”

“We talked a lot about the September visit and that was the main thing. It was just to lay the foundation for another positive visit. I think President Xi will have a very positive visit when he comes to Washington,” he said in statements to the press.

The Republican magnate traveled to Beijing in May to meet with the Chinese president in the first visit by an American president in nine years. Trump already met with Xi on Chinese soil during his first term as head of the White House.
