CBS: US and Israel plan to attack Iran’s energy infrastructure

The United States and Israel are planning one of the largest attacks to date on energy infrastructure in Iran, CBS News reports, citing several sources. It is possible that this military campaign is planned for this coming weekend.

According to these sources, the operation is planned to be completed before the opening of financial markets on Monday, August 3, so as to minimize its impact on the American and global economy, but the exact time frame for the end of the operation was not given.

According to several American sources, Israel has been notified of these plans and is coordinating its actions with the United States. But President Donald Trump has not yet ordered the strikes, the sources said.

The joint operation would mark Israel’s return to hostilities against Iran, which it suspended during the U.S.-brokered truce. Iran has not struck Israel since the US resumed hostilities in early July.

An Israeli official told CBS News: “Israel is not aware of the decision to resume full-scale military operations, and Israel has not been asked to join in any military action against Iran.”

The plan for a military strike on Iran was discussed at a meeting of President Trump’s Cabinet at Camp David on Friday, July 31, according to according to sources briefed later. Some White House policy advisers have strongly opposed the plan.
